"I am so frustrated with paying high prices to get my car fixed. And the dealership prices... forget it! I'm looking forward to opening day."

About Us
Why I Started DIY

I get calls almost weekly asking why/how I got started with this idea - mostly by ex-military members who have used similar facilities on base. I too came up with the idea after serving in the military (USAF).  I had the skills to work on my own vehicles but I did not have the space, tools or lifts available in a repair shop. And paying some other mechanic to fix my car – well, to me it was like paying someone to date my wife (hint: I love my wife).

I thought about it and talked about it until I finally started documenting my thoughts and putting them in a business plan. I have a very detailed plan with equipment lists, cost projections, cash flow analysis, area demographics, personnel requirements and lots more!  I labored with the details for about 20 years. I revised it many times to have it evaluated by agencies such as S.C.O.R.E., and the Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida. Of course I had to modify it regularly to keep up with today’s cost. As I said, my plan is very detailed.

I am always excited to hear about someone else with the same passion. I have been asked to share my business plan. For obvious reasons I cannot do that. Most of the information I am able to share is already on my website. There is some key proprietary business info which I hold confidential and therefore cannot share at this time.

I should also let you know that I do plan to franchise my business as soon after opening as possible. I have been reassured by business professionals and lawyers that I have a great business model for franchise opportunities. That's why it is important for me to keep in touch with people who have shown an interest in this business. Once I have worked out all the kinks in the day-to-day operation of the business I will make it available to like-minded people across the country.

Let me know if you would like to be added to my list of potential franchisee contacts so that when the time is right you will receive everything you need to start a successful Hobby Shop the first time out. But whether you start one on your own, or sign up as a franchisee I wish you the best of luck. And either way I will be happy to continue correspondence with you and exchange advice or ideas about the business. In fact I plan to start a forum discussion board so that all of us DIYers can discuss the business and the opportunities we create.

Keep us in your prayers - I believe we can all be successful, especially if we join together. By the way, do you know of a shop already in operation? I would love to know more about it. Can you provide us with the contact info or website?

Best wishes,

Anthony
